We are just going to group them together but will be featuring the individual species with pictures and narrative as time goes by. When you think of Lories, you automatically think: "stunning, clowns and messy". Our work with their diet has greatly changed the messy aspect. We recommend to all of our customers the use of a more solid diet to cut down on the mess.
The baby Lories are most precious and easy to care for. They stay with the parents for approximately two weeks, are pulled and close banded, and fed a hand-feeding diet of Pretty Bird 19/8 which has been prepared with boiled, distilled water. We use pipettes for their first feedings, then go to a Tint-and-Toner Bottle. Whenever they are approximately five weeks old they begin to wean by eating hand-feeding from a small 3" crock and having fresh fruit, warm sprouts and veggies.
Whenever you consider the breeding of Lories and Lorikeets you have a dazzling rainbow of colors and variety of sizes from which to choose. The larger Lories of preference are the Black Lory (Chalcopsitta atra), the two Black-capped Lories (Lorius lory and Lorius lory erythrothorax), and the Yellow-Backed Chattering Lory (Lorius garrulus flavopalliatus).
More Narrative To Come! We are changing some things around! Keep checking back for more detailed information and pictures of the Lories! |
